Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti is Tanzania's most famous national park and one of the greatest wildlife areas on Earth. Its name comes from the Maasai word siringet, meaning "endless plains", and covers about 14,750 km² of grassland, woodland and granite kopjes.
Highlights
- The Great Wildebeest Migration, present somewhere in the ecosystem all year
- Some of Africa's highest densities of lions, cheetahs and leopards
- Classic scenery of acacia trees, kopjes and rivers
- Hot air balloon safaris at sunrise
Areas of the Serengeti
The central Seronera area has excellent resident wildlife all year. The southern plains and Ndutu host the calving season from December to March. The Western Corridor sees Grumeti River crossings around June, and the northern Serengeti is the place for Mara River crossings from July to October.
How long to stay
We recommend at least two nights, and three or more if you want to follow the migration or explore different areas.
