Follow over a million wildebeest across the Serengeti — calving season and river crossings.

3 tours in Great Migration Safari

The Great Wildebeest Migration is the largest overland movement of animals on Earth. Around 1.5 million wildebeest, together with hundreds of thousands of zebra and gazelle, travel a year-round loop through the Serengeti ecosystem — followed closely by lions, cheetahs, leopards and crocodiles.

Our Great Migration safaris are timed to put you in the right place at the right season, staying in camps close to the herds.

Where are the herds?

  • December to March — the southern Serengeti and Ndutu area for the calving season, when around 8,000 calves are born each day at the peak.
  • April to May — the herds move through the central and western Serengeti during the long rains.
  • June to July — the Western Corridor and the Grumeti River crossings.
  • July to October — the northern Serengeti and the famous Mara River crossings.
  • November — the herds return south with the short rains.

The migration follows the rain, not the calendar, so timings shift from year to year. We track the herds' movements and recommend the best camps for your travel dates.
